What Do You Think?

feedbackEarlier this week I was walking the dog and thought, ‘I should write a book’. I actually came home from the walk, sat at the computer and began writing it. After an introduction of sorts, I stopped. I haven’t gone back to it since. Then, also this week, I’ve had a few people tell me I should write a book. Interesting huh?

A little over a year ago a friend casually mentioned I should write a blog. I think I laughed when she said it. What on earth could I possibly have to blog about? What would I say? Who would I say it to? Would anyone even care? One day, I just started. Actually, what got me mostly interested in doing it was knowing I was able to semi-design the blog layout. I’m all over that.

Who Would Have Guessed?

O.K. So it turns out I may have been premature in my purchase of a tent enclosure for Josiah’s bed. It hasn’t arrived yet. When it does, I may not even take it out of the box. I may just contact the company for a shipping label and return it. Here’s why.

Josiah slept really well last night. No, he slept GREAT last night. The past few nights we have been following a consistent routine. He gets into bed. I pray and sing to him. I tuck him in. I sit in the bean bag chair and wait for him to drift off.

The first night took 4 hours. The next night it was just a couple of hours The night after that was even better, though I don’t have a time reference. Rick put him to bed that night. Last night, Josiah sought me out, grabbed my hand and walked me towards his room.

Another New Plan

I feel like we are on a roll. I’ve been praying for wisdom lately. Specifically, wisdom for helping Josiah. I’ve known for a long time he needs much more than we have been giving him. I’m excited he will be getting a new bouncy chair very soon. I think it will make a huge difference with him sitting, well, bouncing really, at the kitchen table. Might make meal times much more challenging now that I think about it. But we’ll save that for another time.

With the chair dilemma resolved for the time being, I started thinking of other areas that need tweaking. Bedtime is definitely one of those times. You may recall it took 4 hours the other night for Josiah to fall asleep, in his own bed.

Part of the problem was his ridiculously high level of energy. He bounced and bounced and bounced so long and so hard I really thought the bed was going to break.

One Man Demolition Crew

Josiah broke another chair the other day. I can’t even begin to count the number of chairs he has destroyed. When we moved into this house almost 7 years ago, we bought a brand new Kitchen table with 8 chairs. For our large family, it was perfect.

The table was taller than typical Kitchen tables. It requires bar stool sized chairs. When we were looking for a house, one of the most important things we were searching for was an eating area large enough to accommodate everyone comfortably. We were thrilled when we found this house and I absolutely loved the table and chairs we had purchased.

The Haircut Didn’t Happen

no hair cutThe bedroom haircut didn’t happen last night. Josiah had other plans. Do you think he knew what I was up to? How could he possibly know I had full intentions of finishing his bathtub haircut? The boy had NO desire to sleep last night.

He has a new bedroom. He’s in a different bed. We recently switched some kids around now that the 2 older girls are away at College. We figured it was best to move Josiah back down stairs, closer to the Master bedroom.

He was often waking in the night and wandering down to our room anyway. Figured it was best for him to be off the stairs in the middle of the night. We also figured it would be easier to help him maintain a better bedtime routine if we didn’t have to keep walking him back up to his bedroom at night. It’s much easier to walk him down the hall and around the bend.
